Job Description

Job title: Duty Editor, LBC and Global’s Newsroom

At Global, we think big, work hard, and never stand still. We’re the proud home of the best media and entertainment, driven by our talented and passionate people. Our mission? To make everyone’s day brighter - our Globallers, our audiences, our partners, and our communities. Whether we’re in the studio, building world-class technology, or securing record Outdoor advertising partnerships, we make sure we’re doing it as a team.

Your new role

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and highly collaborative Duty Editor to play a leading editorial role at LBC and Global’s Newsroom.

Reporting into LBC’s Managing Editor, you’ll work across the entire newsroom to ensure our audio and digital output is closely aligned, leading coverage on the stories that drive engagement across our platforms. You’ll help set the editorial agenda with news-making guests and standout content.

Working closely with our journalists, presenters, audio and digital teams, you’ll be empowered to make key editorial decisions, with the whole operation working together to deliver brilliant, agenda-setting journalism, as part of an integrated 360 content strategy.

This role operates on a rolling four days on, four days off shift pattern, including early starts, late finishes and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

·       Editorial Leadership: Provide senior editorial oversight across LBC’s output, making confident decisions in a fast-paced, 24/7 news environment. You’ll lead key planning meetings and co-ordinate the daily agenda for the brand.

·       Cross-Platform Content: Join up our strongest stories and moments across audio and digital, ensuring standout content reaches the widest possible audience.

·       Agenda-Setting Journalism: Identify opportunities for original stories, exclusive news lines and big-name guests that generate conversation and drive national debate.

·       Newsroom Collaboration: Work closely with journalists, presenters, programming, digital and communications teams to ensure coverage is aligned across the LBC brand.

·       Shift Leadership & Handovers: Deliver clear and effective handovers between Duty Editors, ensuring each shift is set up for success and key stories continue to move forward.

·       Team Development: Support the development of the journalists and teams you work with, providing regular feedback, guidance and coaching to help them deliver their best work.

·       Editorial Standards & Compliance - Maintain the highest standards of editorial integrity and ensure LBC’s output complies with Ofcom regulations and Global’s editorial requirements. Provide guidance and support to teams on complex editorial decisions and ensure consistent standards across all platforms.

What You’ll Love About This Role

1.     Think Big: Being part of an established and ambitious news brand that thrives on opinion, big-name guests, breaking news and agenda-setting stories.

2.     Own It: Having the autonomy to make important editorial decisions and directly influence LBC’s output across multiple platforms.

3.     Keep it Simple: You’ll operate at the heart of a complex, fast-moving newsroom, providing clear editorial direction, making fast decisions and helping teams respond effectively to changing priorities.

4.     Better Together: You’ll work alongside some of the best in the business - both on and off screen – helping shape standout programmes and getting LBC’s headline-making journalism to new audiences.

What Success Looks Like

In your first few months, you’ll have:

·       Strengthened our output by ensuring all parts of the LBC brand complement each other across audio and digital.

·       Created multiple agenda-setting moments and exclusive news lines that have driven national conversation.

·       Built strong relationships across the newsroom and improved collaboration between journalists, presenters and our wider teams.

·       Established yourself as a trusted editorial leader who can make confident decisions and bring teams together around the biggest stories.

What You’ll Need

·       Senior Editorial Experience: Extensive experience in an editorial role within a fast-paced, multi-platform national newsroom.

·       Exceptional Editorial Judgement: You have strong editorial instincts and are confident making fast decisions, particularly during breaking news and high-pressure situations. You’ll recognise stories, guests and news moments that will resonate with our audiences.

·       Programming & Output Experience: A proven track record of breaking major, original stories with national impact.

·       Advanced Compliance Knowledge: A strong foundation in media law and a detailed understanding of the Ofcom Broadcast Code.

·       Operational Expertise: You are highly organised and experienced in managing competing priorities, resources and workflows in a live broadcast environment.

·       Collaborative Editorial Leadership: A collaborative approach, with the ability to bring together audio, digital, programming and newsroom teams around a shared editorial direction.

·       First-Class Communication: Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external partners.

·       Coaching & Development: The ability to provide constructive, in-the-moment feedback in a supportive way that helps teams continually improve.

·       Flexibility: This role requires shift work, at different times of the day, including weekends.
