Your new role

 

A fantastic opportunity for a dedicated journalist to join our passionate, hardworking team based in Birmingham on a full-time basis.

 

Reporting to a Regional News Editor, you'll be producing and delivering multiple local news bulletins for Heart, Smooth and Capital Radio stations across the Midlands and East of England as well as providing content for Global’s national brands like LBC, LBC News, and Classic FM. 

 

You’ll be creative, have a fantastic voice, great writing skills with experience of producing multiple news bulletins in a busy environment and a keen eye for what makes an exclusive. You will demonstrate a proven track record in responding to breaking news stories, and an understanding of how to support colleagues in the field, and those on-air. 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • You’ll have excellent production skills, write creatively, have a good voice and be able to deliver high quality, relevant, timely and accurate news and current affairs content. You’ll help set the on-air agenda daily.

  • You’ll be part of ensuring stories from our region are heard on our national news talk brand, LBC, and on our rolling news station, LBC News. 

  • You’ll have sound legal judgement and be proficient in Ofcom’s broadcast regulations and guidelines. 

  • You’ll understand the importance of developing relationships with key contacts across our region. 

  • You’ll have the flexibility to tackle news gathering, bulletin reading and reporting shifts as required. 

  • Pitching and delivering outstanding, original content, either on your own or in collaboration with other team members.

  • You’ll be used to responding to changing situations and problem-solving under pressure, to ensure our output is always of the highest standard in all circumstances.

What Success Looks Like

 

In your first few months, you’ll have:

·         Produced stand-out content on some of the nation’s biggest radio brands.

·         Established yourself as a key member of our regional newsroom operation.

·         Set the standard in the quality of the interviews and audio that we output across our newsroom.

·         Created and presented news bulletins across our Heart, Capital and Smooth Radio stations in the East and Midlands.

·         Sourced and produced original, exclusive content. 

·         Responded professionally to a big breaking story. 

·         Developed a full understanding of the different Global brands 

 

What You’ll Need

 

The ideal candidate will be proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following:  
 

  • You will be confident working on your own and under the guidance of your Senior colleagues to provide on-target, agenda-setting, news content. 

  • You will have experience of producing and presenting multiple news bulletins each hour. 

  • Be able to deliver standout, OFCOM-compliant bulletins which routinely meet and exceed Global standards.

  • You will have an understanding of the importance of custom content across our brand portfolio and be capable of taking ownership for all editorial decisions with those diverse audiences in mind.

  • News happens 24/7 - this isn’t a ‘normal’ office job and flexibility is key.
